How to organize a cross-border investigation – a guide for editors and investigative journalists
MANS has developed a practical training module “Editorial Coordination for Cross-Border Investigations”, intended for editors, journalists, data journalists and coordinators working on joint investigations in multiple countries.
The module provides a simple, applicable framework for organizing joint work: from the first editorial meeting and division of roles, through a joint work plan, regular editorial checks and verification of findings, to coordinated publication and monitoring of reactions after publication. Special attention is paid to clear decision-making, protection of sources, risk management and preservation of the editorial independence of each partner editorial office.
The content is based on the experiences of large international collaborative investigations, but also on MANS’ work in projects such as the Pandora Papers and the Russian Asset Tracker, where global data and cross-border connections had to be further verified through domestic registers, sources and local context.

The training module was developed as part of the Collaborative Journalism Europe in a Global Context (CJEGC) project , led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and co-funded by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme. The project develops capacities for cross-border investigative journalism, data use and secure professional cooperation between newsrooms across Europe.
